Church History

The Huntington Congregational Church traces its history 1724 when the Ecclesiastical Society "decided to build its first meeting house... about one-fourth mile northeast of the present green." Click here to read a detailed history of Huntington and the Huntington Congregational Church.

Thirty-two pastors have served us in our years of ministry in this place. From the first pastor, Rev. Jedediah Mills, to the present, Rev. Lance C. Dallaire, we have been led by ministers who care about the needs of their people, and our community.

Until 1946, we maintained an historic dual relationship between the Church and the Ecclesiastical Society, in the true New England fashion. In that year, however, the relationship was dissolved, in favor of having the Church incorporated. From that point, we have been known as the Huntington Congregational Church.

We officially became part of the United Church of Christ at our Church's Annual Meeting in 1961. We have always felt it is important for our church to be supportive of the Wider Church in its every expression.

The mission of the Huntington Congregational Church is to provide Christian leadership and fellowship in the spiritual, physical and emotional development of all God's people; while providing and supporting adequate physical facilities in which to gather and participate in a variety of activities and from which to minister to the congregation and the world in Jesus' name.

Did you know?

HCC has a wonderful treasure that many of us are probably not even aware of. There is a lovely book that is housed in the handsome wooden case which holds the guest book just outside the entrance to the Sanctuary. This book contains the names of the benefactors of our church and is kept beautifully inscribed by MaryAnn Roscoe. These are the names of people who have given endowments to our church. Please take a moment to view this lovely book and be aware of the generosity of our members.

The Leave-a-Legacy Committee will have it on display on Monday, April 28th at Barbara Grisgraber’s Estate Planning meeting in Fellowship Hall. Take the time to see this treasure!
